S. ORESTIS PALERMOS

Philosophy of Mind
Epistemology, Ethics
and Technology

I am an Assistant Professor of Philosophy at the University of Ioannina, Greece. My research takes an interdisciplinary approach, drawing on philosophy of mind and cognitive science, epistemology, philosophy of science, philosophy of technology, and applied ethics.

I am particularly interested in how philosophy can inform the design of emerging technologies and socio-technical systems, as well as in the nature of knowledge and  metaphysics of cognition.

Before returning to Greece, I was a Lecturer (tenured Assistant Professor) and then a Senior Lecturer (Associate Professor) at Cardiff University; prior to that that, I was a Postdoctoral Researcher at the University of Edinburgh, where I also earned my PhD and MSc in Philosophy. My first  degree, a BSc & MSc in Chemical Engineering, is from the National Technical University of Athens.
